Early version without smoke deflectors, with front skirting and two headlights. These legendary machines mastered the great flows of freight in the expanding economy of the socalled Economic Miracle period. This was the high point and the shining moment for the 2,000 hp, 185 metric ton heavy Jumbos, as the class 44 locomotives were affectionately called.
